Monthly survey of bankers finds growing pessimism
The team dives into the Crop Tour results, what moved the markets last week and what to watch out for this week.
USDA reported weekly wheat inspections totaled 946,472 MT for the week ended Aug. 21, which were more than double the previous week and well above pre-report expectations.

Pro Farmer estimates the U.S. corn crop at 16.204 billion bu. using an average yield of 182.7 bu. per acre. We estimate the U.S. soybean crop at 4.246 billion bu. at an average of 53 bu. per acre.
Tour records were discovered in both Minnesota and Iowa.
The western leg of the crop tour took us through Minnesota Districts 4, 5, 7, 8 &9. It was the best crop I’ve seen in Minnesota.
The best was saved for last. Eastern Iowa crops were much better than what we sampled earlier in the week.

Net corn sales for 2025-26 during the week ended Aug. 14 exceeded expectations by 860,000 MT. New crop soybean sales were also stronger than expected.
Harvest continues to progress mostly well, pushing prices down
Western Iowa has a great crop...with great risks. Soybean pod counts were also impressive. Both have disease pressure, which could affect how the crop finishes.
