USDA’s weekly Crop Progress and Condition report showed corn ratings mostly unchanged, while soybeans declined just slightly. Winter wheat continues to deteriorate in the Southern Plains, with spring wheat seeing modest gains from week-ago levels. State-level breakdowns of the Pro Farmer Crop Condition Index, and more details around USDA ratings are below.
Corn
USDA’s rating of the corn crop shows 6% as very poor to poor, 27% fair, and 67% good to excellent. The “good” category saw a 2% decline to 55%, but the “excellent” category saw a 2% increase to 12% that offset the loss. The Crop Condition Index (0 to 500-point scale, with 500 being perfect) shows that most states remain near year-ago levels to start the season, as early season growing conditions remain mostly favorable. The corn CCI rating ticked up to 373.41 from 371.33 last week.
