Soybean basis rises sharply as export demand picks up.

CORN COMMENTS

The national average corn basis firmed 6 1/4 cents to 7 cents above December futures. The national average cash corn price firmed 3 1/4 cents to $6.71 1/2.

Basis is better than the three-year average of 3/4 cent over futures.

SOYBEAN COMMENTS

The national average soybean basis firmed 16 1/2 cents to 25 1/2 cents above January futures. The national average cash price firmed 14 1/2 cents to $14.77 1/2.

Basis is much better than the three-year average of 8 1/4 cents under futures.

WHEAT COMMENTS

The national average soft red winter (SRW) wheat basis dropped 3 1/2 cents to 44 3/4 cents under December futures. The average cash price dropped 43 cents to $7.61 3/4. SRW basis is much weaker than the three-year average of 20 1/4 cents under futures.

The national average hard red winter (HRW) wheat basis held at 39 1/2 cents below December futures. The average cash price fell 10 1/4 cents to $8.90 1/2. HRW basis is weaker than the three-year average of 29 1/4 cents under futures.

CATTLE COMMENTS

Cash cattle trade averaged $151.98 last week, up 3 cents from the previous week. Cash cattle trade has been slow to develop this week but early action in the Southern Plains was at disappointingly lower prices. Last year, the cash price was $131.47.

Choice boxed beef firmed $1.20 over the past week to $264.67. Last year, Choice boxed beef prices were $285.52.

HOG COMMENTS

The average lean hog carcass price dropped $4.04 over the past week to $87.85. Last year’s lean carcass price on this date was $71.96.

The pork cutout value dropped $2.12 over the past week to $94.12. Last year at this time, the cutout price stood at $90.57.
