USDA’s weekly Crop Progress and Condition report showed condition ratings surprisingly lower in corn, with milder deterioration also noted in the soybean crop.
State-level breakdowns of the Pro Farmer Crop Condition Index, which compresses the USDA’s weekly crop progress report into a single, weighted, easy-to-track number that’s widely used to monitor the health and potential of U.S. corn and soybean crops during the growing season and more details around USDA ratings, are below.
Corn
USDA’s rating of the corn crop shows 18% as very poor to poor, 28% fair, and 54% good to excellent. The national level ratings fell 3 percentage points after remaining mostly stable the past three weeks. The good to excellent categories are now their lowest for the crop season. The Crop Condition Index saw a 2.34 point decline as most states in the central Corn Belt saw conditions weaken. Declines were led by Iowa (0.83 points) and Nebraska (1.77 points).
