USDA’s weekly Crop Progress and Condition report showed corn and soybean ratings improved marginally from last week. Winter wheat also notched its first condition increase in five weeks. State-level breakdowns of the Pro Farmer Crop Condition Index, which compresses the USDA’s weekly crop progress report into a single, weighted, easy-to-track number that’s widely used to monitor the health and potential of crops during the growing season, and more details around USDA ratings, are below.
Corn
USDA’s rating of the corn crop shows 6% as very poor to poor, 26% fair, and 68% good to excellent, with the good to excellent group increasing 1% from last week. The Pro Farmer Crop Condition Index (on a zero to 500-point scale, with 500 being perfect) shows a 1.41 point decline as losses in Iowa and portions of the western corn belt offset the rise elsewhere, though little net change was observed overall.
