USDA’s weekly Crop Progress and Condition report showed corn and spring wheat ratings decline slightly from the prior week while soybeans notched a gain. Hot and dry weather in the western U.S. generally drove ratings lower in the impacted regions. State-level breakdowns of the Pro Farmer Crop Condition Index, which compresses the USDA’s weekly crop progress report into a single, weighted, easy-to-track number that’s widely used to monitor the health and potential of crops during the growing season and more details around USDA ratings, are below.
Corn
USDA’s rating of the corn crop shows 9% as very poor to poor, 24% fair, and 67% good to excellent. The good to excellent categories saw a 1% decrease from last week. The Crop Condition Index saw a 0.99 point decline as well. Most of the Corn Belt saw minor improvements, while areas outside of the core growing region saw declines that slightly outweighed those improvements.
