USDA’s weekly Crop Progress and Condition report showed condition ratings largely unchanged in corn as most of the crop has finished development, but minor changes were noted. State-level breakdowns of the Pro Farmer Crop Condition Index, which compresses the USDA’s weekly crop progress report into a single, weighted, easy-to-track number that’s widely used to monitor the health and potential of U.S. corn and soybean crops during the growing season and more details around USDA ratings, are below.
Corn
USDA’s rating of the corn crop shows 17% as very poor to poor, 27% fair, and 56% good to excellent. The national level ratings saw ratings mostly unchanged, with a one percentage point shift from “good” to “excellent” leading to a marginal increase in the CCI of 1.08 points. The late-season adjustments were mixed geographically, with Illinois and Indiana receiving a slight bump, while Iowa fell. Corn harvest is seen at 44% complete compared to the five-year average of 52%.

Soybeans
USDA estimated the soybean harvest at 64% complete, as drier weather in the Midwest has finally allowed for harvest to proceed.
With soybean harvest now over 50% complete, USDA has discontinued national condition ratings. Nebraska and Iowa remain the farthest behind five-year averages at 19 and 17 percentage points respectively, but saw that gap shrink from 29 and 28 percentage points behind the week prior.
