USDA’s weekly Crop Progress and Condition report showed condition ratings slide in corn, while soybeans remained near steady. Corn
USDA’s rating of the corn crop shows 17% as very poor to poor, 27% fair, and 56% good to excellent. The national level ratings saw corn fall 1 percentage point in the good to excellent categories. The Crop Condition Index saw a 1.67 point decline, with most states seeing minor declines. Notable exceptions were Kentucky, Ohio, and South Dakota which saw minor improvements.

The agency also began tracking progress of the corn harvest at the U.S. level this week. Harvest is 1 percentage point ahead of last year at this time at 5% complete for the U.S., with Louisiana leading the way at 91% complete. In the Midwest, Illinois and Missouri saw the most progress made thus far. The highest initial U.S. harvest percentage for this time of year was 13% in 2012.
Soybeans
USDA’s soybean ratings show the crop rated as 13% very poor to poor, 29% fair, and 58% good to excellent. The national level ratings were unchanged despite state-level movement, and broke a four week-long streak of declining conditions. The changes saw the CCI drop 2.2 points to 355.35. Missouri saw the sharpest decline, dropping by 0.84 points from week-ago levels.
