USDA’s weekly Crop Progress and Condition report showed corn ratings dip slightly from the prior week, with soybean ratings mildly declining from last week as well. Corn
USDA’s rating of the corn crop shows 8% as very poor to poor, 25% fair, and 67% good to excellent. Despite the Good to Excellent category declining 1% from last week, the Crop Condition Index (on a 0-to-500 scale, 500 = perfect) shows a 0.70 point net increase. Soybeans
USDA’s soybean ratings show the crop rated as 8% very poor to poor, 27% fair, and 65% good to excellent. The good to excellent categories declined 1% last week. The CCI rating dropped 0.92 points from last week. State-level changes were mostly minimal, but Illinois and Indiana notched 1.39 and 0.93 declines respectively which outweighed minor gains elsewhere in the country.

Spring wheat ratings came in at 7% very poor to poor, 34% fair, and 59% good to excellent. The good to excellent category climbed 5% from the previous week, and increased the CCI rating 4.48 points from last week to 362.16.

Winter wheat was rated at 47% very poor to poor, 27% fair, and 26% good to excellent. The good to excellent category was unchanged from last week. The Crop Condition Index showed HRW declined 3.18 points to 235.37, while SRW increased 1.67 points to 369.02. Harvest is currently 48% complete, and came in 5% lower than the average analyst estimate. The pace of harvest was previously the fastest since 2012 before slowing this past week.
