USDA’s weekly Crop Progress and Condition report showed condition ratings largely unchanged in corn. This was the final condition update for corn as harvest is now at 60% complete. USDA ends condition ratings after the crop exceeds 50% harvested. Crop Progress reports will continue without most crop condition ratings through November 30, when the final report of the year is scheduled for release. Ratings of the 2027 winter wheat crop are scheduled to begin in next Monday’s release.
State-level breakdowns of the Pro Farmer Crop Condition Index, which compresses the USDA’s weekly crop progress report into a single, weighted, easy-to-track number that’s widely used to monitor the health and potential of the U.S. corn crop during the growing season and more details around USDA ratings, are below.
Corn
USDA said 18% of the corn crop was rated very poor to poor, 26% fair, and 56% good to excellent. The national level ratings saw ratings mostly unchanged, with the fair category declining 1% and the very poor category increasing 1%. Changes were mostly small at the state-level as most of the crop has already been harvested, though Nebraska saw the largest decline of 1.29, and South Dakota saw the single largest increase of 0.60 points. The mostly offsetting changes across states led to the CCI increasing 0.02 points to close the season at 349.26.

Progress Updates
This week’s report also showed soybean harvest at 79% complete, now eclipsing the five-year average after the Midwest dried down in recent weeks. The winter wheat crop is 76% planted, just one point behind the five-year average. Emergence is also just one point behind the five-year average at 53% after lagging early, as intermittent rains in the Plains over recent weeks helped germination. Meanwhile in cotton, 52% of the crop is harvested, 7 points ahead of the average for this time. Cotton’s final condition rating of the season showed 33% of the crop in good to excellent compared to the five-year average of 40%.
