USDA’s weekly Crop Progress and Condition report showed conditions improved slightly from the prior week. High temperatures in the western Corn Belt did not result in lower national ratings. Average analyst expectations of good to excellent categories across corn, soybeans, and spring wheat were all lower than the figures released by USDA this afternoon. State-level breakdowns of the Pro Farmer Crop Condition Index, which compresses the USDA’s weekly crop progress report into a single, weighted, easy-to-track number that’s widely used to monitor the health and potential of U.S. crops during the growing season and more details around USDA ratings, are below.

Corn

USDA’s rating of the corn crop shows 8% as very poor to poor, 24% fair, and 68% good to excellent. The good to excellent categories saw a 1% increase from last week. The Crop Condition Index registered the most influential improvement in Ohio, which saw a 0.66 point increase, though multiple other states also saw increases of less than a point to raise the national total 2.01 points to 373.63.
