The ag complex edged collectively higher in end-of-week trade, with soyoil futures driving soybeans higher amid notions of strong biofuel demand. The House of Representatives passed H.R. 7567 at the end of April, with updates to food and agricultural programs – this was the farthest a farm bill has progressed in Congress since 2018. Meanwhile, ag economists believe U.S. agriculture is making a long-term shift as supply disruptions and poor margins affect farmer decisions. The extended disruption of supplies in the Middle East and weather challenges have ultimately pushed the price index for farm commodities to a two-year high as risks of smaller harvest and food inflation risks linger. Analysts at Goldman Sachs warn high oil prices are here to stay if production fails to return to normal levels until the end of July.
