USDA made modest changes in its balance sheet this month, not unexpected but providing very little catalyst for ag markets. A fragile ceasefire is holding in the Middle East but the Strait of Hormuz remains effectively closed. The conflict stoked a surge in March inflation readings. Meanwhile, peace talks are making headway in the Black Sea. Firms are increasing expectations for the Argentine corn crop. Countries continue to work to mitigate rising fuel costs by increasing blends of biofuels into mainstream options at the pump, with Indonesia and Brazil leading the charge. World production of grains is drawing concerns as urea supplies remain hard to come by and rainfall remains short in key production areas, delivery a double-whammy and leading to higher food costs across the globe. We cover all this and much more in this week’s newsletter.
