Slight increase in drought across the U.S.

Corn and soybean acres impacted by drought increased this week

The August 19th drought monitor shows 51% of the U.S. is experiencing abnormal dryness or drought, up 2% from the previous week, with 31.9% in D1 level drought or higher, up 1%. U.S. corn acres in drought conditions D1-D4 are estimated at 5% (up 1%), soybean acres at 9% (up 6%), and spring wheat at 14% (down 2%).

Notable changes in major row crop states from last week include a 29% increase in D1-D4 in Arkansas, a 24% increase in D0-D4 in Kansas, and a 33% decrease in D0-D4 in North Dakota.
