Midweek Cash Markets | Wheat basis modestly improves

SRW and HRW basis improved despite ongoing harvest.

CORN COMMENTS

The national average corn basis slipped 1/2 cent to 15 1/2 cents above September futures. The national average cash corn price firmed 4 1/2 cents to $4.19 3/4.

Basis remains much weaker than the three-year average of 51 cents above futures.

SOYBEAN COMMENTS

The national average soybean basis firmed 6 cents to 6 1/2 cent above November futures. The national average cash price firmed 19 1/4 cents to $10.27.

Basis remains much weaker than the three-year average of 31 3/4 cents above futures.

WHEAT COMMENTS

The national average soft red winter (SRW) wheat basis firmed 3 cents to 32 cents below September futures. The average cash price dropped 2 3/4 cents to $5.09 1/4. SRW basis is much better than the three-year average of 46 cents under futures.

The national average hard red winter (HRW) wheat basis inched up 1/4 cent to 66 3/4 cents below September futures. The average cash price dropped a penny to $4.56. HRW basis is much weaker than the three-year average of 45 1/2 cents under futures.

CATTLE COMMENTS

Cash cattle trade averaged $237.21 last week, up $7.78 from the previous week. Cash cattle are expected to trade about steady this week, though there is again expected to be a wide range of prices. Last year, the cash price was $193.67.

Choice boxed beef dropped $13.60 over the past week to $372.85. Last year at this time, Choice boxed beef prices stood at $318.16.

HOG COMMENTS

The average lean hog carcass price dropped 23 cents over the past week to $111.20. Last year’s lean carcass price on this date was $88.08.

The pork cutout value firmed $2.68 over the past week to $114.74. Last year at this time, the cutout price stood at $99.32.
