Drought Monitor shows increase in abnormally dry conditions

Corn and soybean acres impacted by drought increase slightly

The September 2nd drought monitor shows 57% of the U.S. is experiencing abnormal dryness or drought, up 6% from the previous week, with 34.7% in D1 level drought or higher, up 1%. U.S. corn acres in drought conditions D1-D4 are estimated at 9% (up 4%), soybean acres at 16% (up 5%), and spring wheat at 13% (no change).

Notable changes in major row crop states from last week include a 33% increase in D0-D4 in Illinois, a 7% increase in D1-D4 in Indiana, and a 28% increase in D1-D4 in Ohio.
