Drought conditions continue to dwindle for most major crops

Corn and soybean acres impacted by drought have declined every week since late May

The August 5th drought monitor shows 44.6% of the U.S. is experiencing abnormal dryness or drought, down less than 1% from the previous week, with 29.8% in D1 level drought or higher. Corn acres in drought conditions D1-D4 are estimated at 3% (down 4% from last week), soybean acres at 3% (down 2%), and spring wheat at 35% (down 3%). The amount of corn and soybean acres in drought have decreased each week since the end of May, a very unusual trend for the summer months.

Notable changes in major row crop states from last week include a 10% increase in D0-D4 in Arkansas, a 9% increase in D3-D4 in Colorado, and an 8% decrease in D1-D4 in Nebraska,
