The average cost of a classic Thanksgiving turkey dinner for 10 edged just a penny higher this year to $48.91, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation’s (AFBF) 34th annual survey. For the 2019 survey, more than 250 volunteer shoppers checked prices at grocery stores across 38 states. The Thanksgiving shopping list included: turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls with butter, peas, cranberries, a veggie tray, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, and coffee and milk. A 16-lb. turkey cost an average of $20.80, down 91 cents from 2018. Retail turkey prices are at their lowest level since 2010, according to AFBF.

Of note, while prepared foods are rising in popularity, 92% of Americans celebrate Thanksgiving at their home or at a relative’s home and most cook the entire meal there.

We hope your Thanksgiving is filled with good company and good food.
