Announcement likely this afternoon
Dr. Seth Meyer, currently at the FAPRI (Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute), will reportedly be announced as top USDA economist, replacing Rob Johansson who announced he is leaving his current role. Meyer was the former chair of USDA’s Ag Outlook Board.
Sources say Johansson could remain for a while pending the number of current USDA officials who may leave earlier than expected, including perhaps USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue.
The likely timing of the announcement comes ahead of the incoming Biden administration where the incoming president has announced he wants former USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack to return to the position he held for eight years in the Obama administration.
