Posted on 04/01/2019 3:32 PM

In its first official update for 2019, USDA reports 56% of the winter wheat crop is in “good” to “excellent” condition, a point higher than its last update in late November and well above last year when just 32% of the crop was in the top two categories. Just 9% of the crop garnered “poor” to “very poor” ratings.

Also of note, today's Crop Progress and Condition Report showed 4% of the U.S. cotton crop had been planted as of March 31, two points behind last year at this time but a point ahead of the five-year average. Texas has 7% of the crop in the ground and Arizona has seeded 26% of its crop. No other major producing states have put seed in the ground.
