Dryness Expands in the Heart of the Corn Belt

Abnormal dryness spread from Iowa into southern Minnesota the week ending Aug. 27, and areas of central Iowa already dealing with dryness saw an expansion in coverage, according to today’s National Drought Monitor update. Southeastern areas of the state where moderate drought was present also saw coverage expand.

On the other hand, rain over the past week helped shrink the drought footprint in Indiana and eased dryness in Missouri.

Dryness intensifies in Michigan but eased in North Dakota and Kentucky.
