  • DAP $12.21 above year-ago pricing -- lower $1.99/st on the week to $453.31/st.phosphates
  • MAP $37.21 above year-ago -- lower $7.59/st this week to $477.95/st.
  • Potash $17.60 above year-ago -- higher $2.50/st this week to $334.18/st.

MAP led overall declines in this week's fertilizer prices survey. Iowa led declines falling $31.80 as Kansas fell $30.80 and Missouri softened $2.30. Seven states were unchanged, and no state posted a higher MAP price on the week.

DAP was lower as well with Minnesota off $17.10 and Kansas dropped $15.70. Eight states were unchanged as Iowa gained $6.88 and Ohio firmed $4.05.potash

Potash was higher on the week led by Illinois, which firmed $28.08 as Missouri gained $13.78 and Kansas added $1.24. Six states were unchanged as Nebraska shucked $6.74 and Iowa softened $2.32.

Wholesale values softened for both DAP and MAP at NOLA while running sideways to higher at most other terminals around the world. MAP led overall declines in our survey this week which supports the idea that MAP has overdone it to the upside. We were concerned last week with MAP's sharply higher price, thinking it may pull DAP higher. But both are lower this week, and MAP is working to narrow the wide margin between itself and DAP.

We have been anticipating a seasonal swoon and this week's price action appears to be the front end of such a move. We will continue to wait for indications the market is bottoming before booking phosphate and potash for spring applications.
