Moderate to heavy rainfall favored northern and central Argentina over the holiday weekend, with eastern Cordoba, Santa Fe, western Entre Rios and far northwestern Santa Fe receiving the heaviest amounts of 2-4” (50 to 100 mm). The rainfall was heavier-than-expected across central Argentina and once again increased wetness concerns and stalled any fieldwork.
Dry weather is expected this week, with just a few light showers possible in La Pampa and Buenos Aires later this week. The drier pattern is expected to continue during the 6-10 day period.
Meanwhile in Brazil, rains favored Mato Grosso, Goias, western Bahia, Minas Gerais, Sao Paulo and eastern Mato Grosso do Sul over the weekend. The showers led to some improvements in soil moisture, but additional rainfall is still needed to end dryness in northern areas.
Rains this week should favor central and northwestern Brazil, which will further improve conditions for crops, particularly in Mato Grosso, western Goias and Sao Paulo. Little additional improvement is expected in northeastern areas this week, but showers should increase some during the 6-10 day period in northeastern Brazil and should continue in northwestern Brazil.
