Sharp Drop in Placements Expected in Cattle on Feed Report

Posted on 04/19/2018 12:43 PM

After aggressively moving calves into feedlots during winter given poor wheat conditions, cattle producers dramatically slowed placements for March, based on expectations for USDA’s Cattle on Feed (COF) Report. In fact, all pre-report estimates call for a significant drop in March placements from last year. But March marketings also slowed. As a result, analysts surveyed by Reuters expect the April 1 feedlot inventory to top year-ago by 7.5% at roughly 11.732 million head.
