COF Report Expected to Show All Major Categories up from Year-ago

Posted on 09/19/2018 12:50 PM

Traders expect USDA’s Cattle on Feed Report to show all categories up from year-ago levels, with the number of cattle on feed as of Sept. 1 at 11.067 million head, up 5.4% from year-ago levels.

The pre-report guess range is once again widest for Placements, though the 5.9-point spread is not as wide as we’ve seen leading up to a number of reports this year. On average, analysts anticipate a 4.4% rise from 2017 levels for that category.
